Garage Door Repair Services: What We Fix, How a Visit Works, and What It Costs
Garage doors rarely fail all at once. Usually one part gives out, like a spring, a cable or the opener, and the door stops. Good garage door repair means finding that part and fixing it. It does not mean selling you a new door.
Garage Door Repair Boise fixes broken springs, loose or snapped cables, openers, keypads, bottom seals and off-track doors for homeowners across the Treasure Valley, working from our base in Boise. Call 208-576-2500 and a real person answers. We prioritize same-day repairs and can often have the door working the same day. You get the price in your garage before any work starts, and you’re only charged if you choose to go ahead. Spring replacement typically runs $190–$299.95, and the service call fee is waived on repairs over $200.

What We Repair, Part by Part
Most readers know the symptom, not the part. Each section below starts with what the door is doing.
Spring Snapped? Torsion and Extension Spring Replacement
The signs are a loud bang from the garage, a door that won’t lift more than a few inches, or an opener that strains and quits. Springs do the heavy lifting. The opener only guides a balanced door. Most homes have torsion springs on a bar above the door. Older setups use extension springs that stretch along the side tracks. Springs are rated for roughly 10,000 cycles. Cold snaps are when worn springs often give out: metal contracts overnight, and a coil near the end of its life lets go.
Once a spring breaks, stop running the opener. It strains the motor, and the door can drop. Our garage door spring replacement runs $190–$299.95. Whether it’s one spring or two, and how heavy the door is, moves the number. The breakdown is on our spring replacement cost page. Call 208-576-2500 and we’ll get it handled.
Cable Let Go or Door Off Its Track
The door hangs crooked, a cable dangles loose, or rollers have popped out of the track. Lift cables carry the door’s weight along with the springs. When one lets go, one side drops, and the door twists or jumps the track. Cable failures often travel with a spring problem, so we check both.
Treat this as urgent. Cables and springs hold stored tension, and a crooked door can fall. What it costs depends on what’s damaged — we go over everything with you in the garage before any work starts. Call 208-576-2500 and we’ll come out the same day if the schedule allows.
Opener Won’t Respond: Opener and Motor Repair
Maybe the opener does nothing. Maybe the motor hums but the door won’t move, the door reverses for no reason, or it stops partway. The usual causes are photo-eye safety sensors knocked out of line, a failed logic board, a burned-out motor, or stripped drive gears. We repair most makes and models of garage door openers.
UL 325 requires an opener to reverse when it hits something or the beam is broken. If yours doesn’t, that’s a safety repair. The DASMA safety guidance explains how to test it. Often a board or gear set fixes the problem. If the unit is old and the motor is gone, a new opener can make more sense. See garage door opener repair, motor replacement cost and opener installation cost. Not sure what’s wrong with yours? Give us a call and we’ll talk through what it’s doing.
Keypad or Remote Stopped Working
Many keypad and remote problems are a reprogramming job. Some keypads are simply worn out and need replacing. Before you schedule, try fresh batteries first, then check the opener manual for the pairing steps — many models walk you through it in a couple of presses. This is a schedulable repair, not an emergency. Email info@garagedoorboiseid.com or call when it’s convenient.
Worn Bottom Seal or Weatherstripping
You might see daylight under the door, or feel drafts, or find water or leaves blowing in. That points to the bottom rubber or weather seal. Hot, dry summers and big temperature swings tend to harden and crack rubber until it stops sealing. A new bottom seal or new weatherstripping keeps your existing door. It’s an easy repair to schedule. Email info@garagedoorboiseid.com or call 208-576-2500 to pick a time.

What Garage Door Repair Costs and What Moves the Price
Most repairs are priced by the failed part plus labor. These factors move it:
- Spring type and count. Torsion or extension, one spring or two. Our spring replacement runs $190–$299.95. The details are on the garage door spring replacement cost page.
- Door size and weight. A heavier door needs heavier springs and more careful balancing.
- Opener drive type. Replacing a motor and installing a new unit are different jobs. Compare garage door motor replacement cost with new opener installation cost.
- Extra damage. A snapped spring that also frayed a cable or bent a roller means more parts.
Repair or Replace the Door?
A single failed part is usually a repair, not a reason for a new door. Springs, cables, openers, keypads, seals and off-track rollers can all be fixed on the door you already have. Replacement makes sense when the door itself is badly damaged, or when you want an upgrade. A fair question to ask any company: which part failed, and why would the whole door need replacing? If you’re weighing it, check what a new door costs compared with a repair. We quote new garage door installation in person.
Call Now or Schedule It? A Quick Safety Triage
Call now if the door is stuck open, your car is trapped, a spring has snapped or a cable has come loose. Stop running the opener.
Leave tensioned springs and lift cables alone. They store enough energy to cause serious injury, which is why safety groups widely warn against DIY spring and cable work. A worn seal or a stubborn keypad can wait for a scheduled visit.

“Mr. Lobey was very professional, down to earth and most importantly, trustworthy. He didn’t try and upsell me, which is a big concern of mine in this industry. Instead, he asked in-depth questions and gave me options to consider, which helped an average Joe like me understand how to best proceed with a solution. Highly recommend!” — Kyle Anderson
